Fasion X-treme 2013

I was invited to a Spring/Summer collection fashion show by Style Magazine two weeks ago which took place at The Marmalade Pantry, ION Orchard.
The brands featured were DKNY, enVie de Pois, Paul Ka and Vivienne Westwood.

Love the invitation card so much

Some of the canapes and desserts that were catered to guests during the show

Here are my favorite looks.

Anddd my most favorite piece of the show from Vivienne Westwood.
This dress is so awesome, love the details. It is a perfect number for a garden wedding.

A picture with my gorgeous girl, Sylvia before leaving. Can you believe she is a mother of two?

Headed to Tawandang Mircobrewery at Dempsey for a dinner after the show.
I used to enjoy their food but I think their standard has dropped and the service was slow :(
The price was a bit steep, we paid $160 for 3 adults and 1 kid. I think I won't be visiting this restaurant anytime soon.

Happy Birthday Annielicious Food

This is an overdue post, pardon my bad habit of procrastinating :p

We celebrated my bestie, Annie's blog turned one last month.
I am so proud of her, she is putting a lot of effort into her blog and she has gained popularity for just one year.
You just try to type 'pig stomach soup' or 'pig trotter in vinegar' or 'steamed cod fish' in google search box and her post will come on the first page of search result.
Sooooo, it was definitely worth celebrating :)

Linda and I ordered "All Chocolate" cake from Awfully Chocolate. It is a dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate fudge.
It costs SGD 51.60 for an 8 inch cake. I really love the black n white theme of the box and the black ribbon. It looks so elegant and classy.
Annie was so surprised when we showed up with this cake, it turned out that it was one of her favorite cakes.
We loved the cake so much. It tasted heavenly.

Andddd to reward us, Annie cooked one of her latest recipe then, which was Mee Rebus Johor with Begedil (deep fried potato patty). Lucky us!

Hard boiled eggs as one of the mee rebus condiments.

We help with the begedil preparation. Hence, the not so good looking begedil before frying :p

I grabbed the good looking begedil picture from Annie's blog, they are so pretty.

Check out Annie's atas Le Creuset pots. She is a big fan of Le Creuset and she has a huge collection in her house.

The super yummilicious mee rebus Johor. I have to control my saliva when I type this. This is definitely the best mee rebus that I have ever eaten in my life. Check out the generous amount of Annie's ingredients.

For the refreshment, we were served with the old school Orangina drink

and homemade longan jelly

You may check out Annie's Mee Rebus Johor recipe here and the Begedil recipe here
I am waiting for my food processor to arrive soon so I can cook this mee rebus at home. Yipieee

Melaka Trip Day 2 and 3

This is the second part of my Melaka trip post. You may read the first part here

Brunch on second day was duck noodle.
Here is WY posing in front of the duck noodle shop while Mr. D ordered food for us :D

Love the old school coffee mugs

Braised egg, duck intestine and firm tofu. Yum yum

A quarter duck meat, the meat is very tender.

The kway teow is so good, look at the generous amount of the beansprouts. Love it so much.
The total cost of the meal was RM 49.60 for 6 adults.
This meal is super nice that we went back to have it again the next day before leaving Melaka.

The address of the duck noodle restaurant is No. 33, Jalan Kota Laksamana 1/2, Taman Kota Laksamana, Melaka.
The opening hour is from 7 am to 3 pm and they are closed every Tuesday.

********

Our next journey was a visit to Baba Charlie to get assorted nyonya kueh and snacks.
It is located along a small alley at 72 Jalan Tengkera Pantai 2, Melaka 75200

WY posing with our 'tour guide', Derrick with Max in the background :p

Love this otah so much. There is a big piece of fish cake in the middle. Unfortunately, there were only 3 pieces left.
You may call them at +6019-666 2907 to make reservation if you are going. It costs RM 5 per piece.

We also bought some Nyonya rice dumplings to bring back to Singapore for family and friends. So glad that they like it. However, I am not a fan of Nyonya dumpling. I prefer Cantonese dumpling instead.
Please take note that the opening hour of Baba Charlie is from 10 am to 4 pm and they are closed every Thursday.

The other place that I must visit whenever I go Melaka is Nadeje cakeshop, which is famous for their mille crepes.
We initially went to the branch at Mahkota Parade, but gave up after seeing the long queue and headed to the new branch at Plaza Mahkota instead. I am so glad we made this decision, this branch had no queue and it was more comfortable than the one at Mahkota Parade.

Our mille crepes. Clockwise from top left: rum n raisin, gula melaka, green tea and original flavors. In my opinion, the best flavor is the original, followed by rum n raisin, green tea and gula melaka. I bought a double chocolate flavor for a friend and her son loved it so much. Will give it a try next time.

I am a happy girl

and three happy girls :D Here are my girls, Annie from Annielicous food and Linda.

Check out the branches of Nadeje and the full addresses in Melaka and Petaling Jaya.
The opening hour is from 11 am to 10 pm daily for all branches.

You may also buy the mille crepes back and they still taste good :D
They do sell the cooler bag with dry ice pack at RM 15 if i remember correctly.
They can be kept in fridge for 3 to 4 days.

A nice graffiti near Nadeje

A slow stroll along the famous Jonker Walk to look for souvenirs and more food :D
Jonker walk is along Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka

Our first stop was Mei Zhong Yuan Confectionery at No. 125 Jalan Hang Jebat, 75200 Melaka.
They are famous for the Sun biscuit, Lotus biscuit with egg yolk and green bean biscuit (tau sar piah or tambun biscuit)

Lotus biscuit with egg yolk. This is highly recommended. Bought for my FIL once and he finished them in no time

The opening hours for Mei Zhong Yuan Confectionery:
- Monday to Thursday: 10 am to 7 pm
- Friday to Sunday: 10 am to 10 pm
The shop closed on Tuesdays, expect for public holidays.

Headed to Jonker 88 for the chendol and asam laksa.

Interesting decoration inside Jonker 88

I think both the chendol and asam laksa were quite disappointing.
I used to stay in Penang for a while, therefore I have higher expectation for asam laksa.

Hard Rock Cafe Melaka

Always love the interior of HRC

Dropped by San Shu Gong to pick up more local products.

And some interesting shoots along the way

And a visit to Melaka is not complete without eating the Peranakan food. So here we were, trying out peranakan food at Restoran Makko at 123, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, 75000 Melaka.

The lady finger was super duper good, the chili sauce was sooooo yummy.
But the rest of the food was just OK, not too impressive.

However, you must try the chendol. This is superb, love the awesome fragrant taste of the authentic gula melaka (palm sugar) used. We even bought back some packets of the gula melaka back to Singapore and my food critic SIL reminded us to get more for her next time. It costs RM 6 a pack. I reckon this is the best chendol in Melaka that I have tried so far.

The price for the chendol is RM 3.50 which is only 50 cents more than the chendol in Jonker 88 (RM 3 a bowl). It is definitely worth it, considering the authentic gula melaka used, the amount of the ingredients and the nice and cozy environment. We came back the next day to have the chendol again.

************

Not so satisfied with the peranakan food we had, we decided to try another for lunch the next day at Restoran Bibik Neo. It is located at No. 6, Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, 75000 Melaka.

Overall the food was good. The best was the nyonya chap chye (mixed vegetable stew). The otah and the cincalok omelette were nice too. But we were a bit disappointed with the curry chicken. It was not bad but we expected it to have more oomph.

We are still hunting for a nice authentic Peranakan food in Melaka. Please let me know if you have a good suggestion.

These sum up our 3 days 2 nights Melaka trip.
I am looking forward to have another food trail with my girls and the hubbies again soon :)
